Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists, or physicians in Commonwealth nations.
Upon graduating from Medical School, the now Doctor Scott Rifkin moved back to his hometown, Baltimore, where he established a practice in Towson, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore (about 15 miles to the North).
While being a successful internal medicine doctor in the Baltimore Suburbs was extremely rewarding, Scott Rifkin was pulled into the DOT-COM world of the 80s and 90s and became an entrepreneur, launching AmericasDoctor.com and becoming the number one place for people on America Online to learn more about medicine and doctors.
Meanwhile, though silent about his company’s anticipated initial public offering later this summer, Dr. Scott Rifkin, chief executive of AmericasDoctor.com said he was very much aware of what his company’s competitors are doing. Via Bizjournals:
“In any of these deals, it is essential that companies understand their return on investment on a media deal,” Rifkin said. Rifkin declined to comment about what he thought of the added health-care information competition on America Online.
Since then, Dr. Scott Rifkin has launched business after business, including serving as the Chairman of Provider Partners Health Care, the founder and managing partner of Mid-Atlantic Health Care (MAHC), the founder and CEO of Real-Time Medical Systems, a cutting edge provider of medical data mining software, and founder and CEO of Five Star Physicians, which provides high quality healthcare providers to skilled nursing facilities.
Scott Rifkin serves on the Board of the Baltimore Zoo, the Health Facilities Association of Maryland and the Pennsylvania Health Care Association.
